The Isle of Wight Pipes and Drums are based in Newport
We are available for hire across the Isle of Wight. Whether you’re looking for the full band or a solo piper or drummer, we can provide the perfect accompaniment for your event or celebration.
Pipes and Drums
The band invites experienced players and those wishing to learn the pipes or drums. We offer a supportive and encouraging environment for beginners and welcome all ages and abilities.
Tenor Drums
A young learner under the watchful eye of tenor drum tutor Bill Bates, developing confidence and control at the heart of the drum corps. Alongside the tenor drum, you will also hear the supportive pulse of the bass drum and the crisp articulation of the snares.
Practice Chanter
Learning the bagpipes begins with the practice chanter, where you build the essential skills and finger techniques. Once you’ve mastered the basics, you can progress to the full set of pipes. It’s a demanding instrument that requires dedication, but the reward is truly powerful and distinctive.
Unique Music
Sheet music for bagpipes differs from other instruments, it uses ornaments like doublings and grips to shape phrases on a continuous stream of sound, and it’s written for a fixed scale that sits outside standard concert pitch.
